Kampongchhnang is the provincial town at 99 km northwest from Phnom Penh. Located along the Tonle Sap river, this ancient port of potters resists under the anachronistic appearance between the colonial style buildings and the authentic village with its houses both floating and on stilts. A walk through this village is ideally to discover the lifestyle and can feel the reality of Cambodia whose the province's economy is mainly based on fishing, rice farming, fruit crops and some textile factories. Rural households are almost totally dependent on agriculture and its opportunities.
Although it is considered as the province with the least tourist attractions, the main interest lies in Kampong Chhnang, in addition to its proximity to Phnom Penh, in the richness of its natural sites, outside traditional circuits and therefore less cluttered. The area is especially popular for its excursion by boats to the floating fishermen villages, discovery by a walk in the potters-village and an outputs at the countryside where it is not unusual to see oxcarts.
